Why is writing a bio so challenging?
I recently hired a new colleague (we will call him Thomas), and via a Linked In post I wrote, which announced his much-heralded arrival, proceeded to net over 4,000 views (and continues to grow.)
Here’s hoping my bio gets even a shadow of the same attention.
My name is Jeff Burkhardt, and I am a Director of Business Development for the IT Staffing division for firstPRO, Inc. (www.firstproinc.com), a privately held, family-owned Staffing and Recruiting company, with offices in Atlanta, Boston, and Philadelphia. Though I have multiple responsibilities, my focus is to lead our division’s sales and business development strategy for IT staffing in Philadelphia.
I love what I do. I excel at what I do. And more so, I get to do what I do.
My business is all about Relationships — building them, developing them, and ultimately, taking them to places they have never been before.
I’m a local product, having grown up in Southern New Jersey, and have worked most of my career in the Delaware Valley, save for the 2 years I operated in Washington, DC. I have successfully supported customers ranging from Fortune 100 organizations, to small, mom and pop type operations that, over my career, I have watched become some of the industry’s most recognized names. The basis of what I do is simple — I help companies find talent to support their organization’s hiring needs. How we go about to get there is anything but simple. That’s why you want to engage me and firstPRO. We get things done. We know people.
I lead a small, but mighty Business Development Team at firstPRO that brings their best daily because they want to be their best every day. I am proud that I have an opportunity to make such an impact on the lives of my customers, my consultants, and my contacts, and do it all with my talented colleagues.
I was told many years ago that as you mature, work gets easier. That’s not true. If anything, I find those who are truly successful in what they do are always investing time in themselves and in their teams, with the goal of being the best they can be at their craft. Not necessarily better than the next person (though that might remain a secret objective), but instead, be better than oneself every day.
Now that covers the business stuff.
The more entertaining part of my life is that I am also a lucky husband to a wonderful woman (for the past 29 years), a dad of 3 grown children, who themselves are building incredibly rich, awesome careers, and a baseball umpire who realized many years ago that my place in baseball was behind the plate, and not at second base. A Chase Utley, I will never be.
